Martin Vauchel from France

1- Name - Surname - Nickname - age - city - country ?
My name is Martin Vauchel, you may know me through "the hounds" or "houndswinter", but it's not a nickname. All my friends call me Martin... Though noone calls fbien "summoner's collector". I'm 24 years old (well in one month!!! fbien, don't foget me :-)), I have a little daughter named Maëlle, she's 3 years old and full of life. I live in Grenoble, near French Alpes, somewhere between Lyon and Genève.

2- What did you do for living?
I work for an ingeneering school in Grenoble called ENSGI. I'm attached to the computer service, lots of maintenance on PC, assistance to users, mostly students. I pretend to be a webdesigner and start to get more and more work about webdesign at the office, which is nice. You can see my skills through my Sting site www.milliondoors.fr.st and through a sort of CV site http://martin.vauchel.free.fr/mvweb.

3- Sting or Police?
I certainly began with listening to the Police, but I wasn't a fan. I start to become a fan in 96 after seeing my first Sting show in Toulouse. Now I can classify me as a Sting freak. I like the Police though, great music too. I only collect Sting.

4- When did you start to collect Sting items and why?
It wasn't far away. In fact, in 96 I made an audiotape of the Soul Cages Concert VHS. At the moment, I considered being the only one on earth having this great idea!!! :-) I had a unique Sting live show to listen too. Then I did the same with the Taratata 96 show. Then I discovered internet, and obviously Sting sites. Through Sting sites I discovered collectors and tI don't collectofficiuahe long lists of live shows, it was a shock. The first bootleg I bought is un abrazo a la esperanza. Then I started trading with internet help. It was early 97. Now I have near 150 sting shows.

5- What did you collect (everything, just CD, vinyl.)?
I don't collect officials CD's and stuff like fbien. fbien is crazy!!! :-) Of course I have some nice officials items too, just for the fun of it, but I don't properly collect them. I collect the music, all the rarest tracks, tv, fm appearances and live shows... In the beginning I collected all the shows I could, now I only want the shows I can enjoy listening too, good quality, good performance.

6- What is the item your are the proudest to have?
As I said, I don't collect officials things, so I can't really say I'm proud of the CD-R I have... I can say the shows I'm the more happy to have: Montreux 91 acoustic concert, Soul Cages Demos, ... There is so much . I made a list of the best shows for me on my site www.milliondoors.fr.st under exclusive/articles.

7- What is the item your definitely want top have?
The promo cd (or a copy of it) of the bsides and alternate versions from Brand New Day. There is certainly details of it on Out Of Print. And actually I'm very anxious to hear the new live album. I'd like to get a full performance of it, with all the chat and songs as we have for Unplugged 91 with the rehearsals. Hope can help to live :-)

8- What is your best remember about Sting and/or collecting?
There is several on different scale. First I'm very happy to have met a great guy like fbien through Sting collecting. That's part of the thing that makes the sacrifice I sometimes made really worthwhile... Then on a lower scale, just about collecting, I think it's when I discovered the "Live Cages" digipack with "Hollywood Bowl" and "Chicago Sessions 91". It was hidden in a shop where the guy pretend having nothing about Sting... This is a great quality bootleg.

9- How many time did you see sting/Police live?
2 times MF tour, 6 times on Brand New Day Tour, as I said I'm a very new fan!!! :-) Though I was in Montreux 2001, which was a unique event!!!

10- Your 5 favourites songs /your order of preference of the album?
Oh, what a stupid question!!! :-) I'll try to play the game though. fav songs: the hounds of winter - a thousand years - lazarus heart - the wild wild sea - medley why should I cry for you / be still my beating heart from wembey 11/30/91 (that's cheating, I knwo, but I don't care...) Albums: 1. The Soul Cages 2. Nothing Like The Sun = Ten Summoner's Tale's = Dream Of The Blue Turtles = Brand New Day 3. Mercury Falling This is a lot of equality, but as I said it's tricky game and really subjective to the moment I respond to the question. And putting MF in last position doesn't mean I don't like it, I love it too... And so much songs I could quote... Good luck to the followers!!!
